A very sad moment in the scripture is recorded when the Gerasenes ask Jesus to leave them because a work of grace affected their illicit means of support (Mark 5:17).
It is the revelation of the truth that for some, Christ’s interference with their hopes and cherished plans, can cause them to want His influence to subside. In their case, they just wanted Him to leave.
Today, we just don’t want to hear anything that isn’t what we want to hear. In the Gerasenes day, Jesus did not remain when the apprehensive people asked Him to leave. He does not stay where He is not wanted. His influence and healing power moved on. Today, He will never leave us nor forsake us, but the affects of rejection keep us from receiving all He desires to give.
A closed hand can receive nothing.
