HOW TO FIGHT A FIERCE BATTLE

HOW TO FIGHT A FIERCE BATTLE

I remember reading that Martin Luther once wrote, “When I cannot pray, I always sing.”

It was a wonderful confirmation to me that some battles can only be won through praise. Like Jehoshaphat we could say, “for we are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on Thee.” (2 Chron. 20:12) His eyes were not upon the greatness of the difficulty, but upon the greatness of God.

Then, Jehoshaphat appointed singers who would go forth before the army singing, “Give thanks to the Lord, for His lovingkindness is everlasting.”

They did this though there was not one visible sign of victory, but it was not long before they saw the Lord confound their enemies causing them to destroy each other. The deliverance was so complete that they didn’t just gain the victory, but they spent three days collecting the spoils.

What started with a song of praise ended with a song of deliverance!
