“So let my lord go on ahead of his servant, while I move along slowly at the pace of the flocks and herds before me and the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir.” Genesis 33:14
This is an incredible picture of Jacob’s thoughtfulness for the cattle and the children. He would not allow them to be overdriven even for one day. He would not expect them to keep the pace of a strong man like Esau, but only according to what they could endure. He knew how far they could go in a day and he made that a key consideration when planning the journey. Jacob had traveled this way years earlier and knew the difficulty by personal experience.
This is a great reminder about how God paces our journey. He has traveled this way before and He will not make us take one step beyond what our foot is able to endure. He knows the journey and He knows us, and will keep us at the pace He knows is best for us.
