Paul wrote that God loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor. 9:7). There is a rabbinic saying which said that to receive a friend with a cheerful countenance and to give him nothing is better than to give him everything with a gloomy countenance. Seneca said that to give with doubt and delay is almost worse than to give not at all.
That is why I pray today that God who supplies the substance to give would also supply the spirit in which to give it.
Giving envelopes the lives of the people who give as well as the people who receive. It connects us to each other and in one moment allows us to display an attribute of our Father in heaven who gave us “His indescribable gift,”( 2 Cor. 9:15)— our salvation through His Son.
