And Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all those who were selling and buying on the temple grounds, and He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. And He said to them, “It is written: ‘MY HOUSE WILL BE CALLED A HOUSE OF PRAYER’; but you are making it a DEN OF ROBBERS.” And those who were blind and those who limped came to Him in the temple area, and He healed them.” Matthew 21:12-14
Between now and the end of the year I would like to put attention on the topic of prayer, something many churches have moved away from. With that in mind I would like to share a word I heard from Jim Cymbala regarding prayer.
“You can tell how popular a church is by who comes on Sunday morning. You can tell how popular the pastor or evangelist is by who comes on Sunday night. But you can tell how popular Jesus is by who comes to the prayer meeting.”
Satan’s main strategy with God’s people has always been to whisper, “Don’t call, don’t ask, don’t depend on God to do great things. You’ll get along fine if you just rely on your own cleverness and energy.”
The truth of the matter is that the devil is not terribly frightened of our human efforts and credentials.
But he knows his kingdom will be damaged when we lift our hearts to God.
