One of the lesser-known disciples of Jesus was Barnabas. His real name was Joseph of Cyprus, but his friends called him Barnabas. Barnabas and Saul (Paul) preached together for about a year, but only after Barnabas reached out to Saul, who after his Damascus encounter with Jesus, had strangely returned to his home town.
Barnabas, amidst a great revival, left all the excitement to “fetch” Saul out of “hiding.” Thus, thanks to Barnabas, who always was thinking of others, the powerful ministry of Saul…Paul…began.
Barnabas was never about himself, but he was always about other people. That’s why he was known as the great Encourager. Be an encouragement to others! It’s a high calling!
