“He will cover you with His pinions (feathers), and under His wings you may seek refuge.” Ps. 91:4
We are told that there are four calls that a hen uses when calling her brood.
The first is the call of the night when they need shelter from the threats that come with darkness. There is the call for food when the hen finds a dainty morsel for them. The third call is the call for danger, when a hawk is near or any other threat not seen by the young chicks. And last, there is what might be called the call of love when the hen wants to gather her young under her that they may feel the warmth and softness of her own body.
This passage reminds us that God, like the mother hen, watches over us with great care. When darkness is a threat or the hawks in life descend, when provision is needed, or when the healing closeness of an embrace will secure….listen. He calls.
