January 4, 2017 – Pastor’s Word for the Week
January 4, 2017 Pastor Bob Barnett
Old Holy Bible

As Christians, we’ve been taught to study and learn the Word of God…and then make the Word of God part of our daily walk with the Lord.  Hebrews 4:12 states, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”  We’ve been taught that our faith enables us to believe the Bible implicitly, knowing it is God’s living self-expression.

I’ve had the privilege of reading the Bible cover to cover many times, but I enjoyed the Bible much more after I understood the structure of the Bible and how the Bible is organized.

There are sixty-six books in the Old and New Testaments which make up the Bible.  The Old Testament is made up of thirty-nine books, Genesis to Malachi, and relates the creation and the history of the Jewish race up to the time of Jesus’ birth.  Many scholars believe Old Testament accounts cover about 2,000 years.

The New Testament is made up of twenty-seven books and covers the birth, ministry of Jesus, His death, and resurrection.
Of the thirty-nine books in the Old Testament, there are three different kinds of books:  Historical, Poetical, and Prophetical books.
Next week, we will look the logical flow of the Old Testament.

Until then, may the Lord richly bless and keep you as you continue walking with Him!
