“…but speaking the truth in love we are to grow up in all aspects into Him, who is the head, even Christ.” Eph. 4:15
As our children grew up in our home we would mark their heights on a closet door noting the date of the measuring. To this day you can open the door and see the growth of the boys over the years seeing the change.
Likewise, maturity has its marks that let us know how we have progressed. When summed up, God’s word teaches about markers that reveal where we are in our spiritual growth. We can stand next to them and see how we measure up.
We can see growth…
1. When our concern for others outweighs our concern for ourselves.
2. When we detect the presence of evil or danger before it is obvious.
3. When we have wisdom and understanding as well as knowledge.
4. When we have more than high ideals but the discipline to carry them out.
5. When our emotions are tempered by responsibility and thoroughness.
6. When our awareness of needs is matched by our compassion and involvement.
7. When we not only understand a task but also have the fortitude to stay at it until it is done.
8. When we have a willingness to change, once we are convinced that correction is in order.
9. When we have the ability to grow spiritually by an independent intake of God’s word.
