Our challenge as Christians — as children of the all-powerful and ever-loving God — when tempted to stoop low under what we believe to be a burden of disappointments, is to claim the words of the prophet when he said, “Should you pass through the sea, I will be with you; or through the rivers, they will not swallow you up. Should you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched and the flames will not burn you” (Isa.43:2,JB).
With that confidence we can then begin to understand even just a little bit of what Frederick Faber meant when he said, “There are no disappointments to those whose wills are buried in the will of God.”
