Rest and Safety

Rest and Safety
September 26, 2017 Pastor Bob Barnett

“I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Psalm 4:8

Marilyn Meberg, in an essay quotes a poster entitled, “Every Morning in Africa.” It said:

Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up,
It knows that it must run faster
Than the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning a lion wakes up, it knows
That is must outrun the slowest gazelle or
It will starve to death.
It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle:
When the sun comes up
You had better be running.

Like it or not, we all live life on the run because we, too, feel some kind of threat. We are either running from things or after other things, but nevertheless, we sense the pace as running.
What is so difficult is that we feel we have to run to survive, and it can leave one unsettled and worn. But remember the words of Jesus, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matt 11:28)
If you need rest today take a moment and come to Him.  Ask for the rest and sense of peace and safety only He can give.
