“…WE MAKE A LIFE BY WHAT WE GIVE.”

“…WE MAKE A LIFE BY WHAT WE GIVE.”
November 23, 2024 Pastor Bob Barnett

“And while He was in Bethany at the home of Simon the leper, and reclining at the table, there came a woman with an alabaster vial of very costly perfume of pure nard; and she broke the vial and poured it over His head. But some were indignantly remarking to one another, “Why has this perfume been wasted?”

But Jesus said, “Let her alone; why do you bother her? She has done a good deed to Me.”  Mark 14:3,4,6.

Every day Jesus went forth into the sea of humanity and had multitudes coming to Him to have their needs met. One can only imagine how much it must have meant to have someone come to Him who was not thinking of her needs but of His. Her generosity was worth far more than the value of the vial of perfume.

Our world desperately needs people who will be generous with their lives.

No one is born with a generosity gene, but the trait comes from a heart that is not strong through pride, but through love. At it’s core there is the incredible gratitude that never forgets what it felt like to be without love, encouragement, resources, health, and all the other gems of life we all too often take for granted. This moment meant so much to Him that He said in verse 9, “And truly I say to you, “Wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, that also which this woman has done shall be spoken of in memory of her.”
