“Love…bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.” I Corinthians 13:7-8a
The old song, What the World Needs Now is Love, made popular by Jackie DeShannon in 1965, is a message needed so desperately today. Not the superficial love that comes and goes with circumstance, but the love that is unconditional–the better or for worse, richer or for poorer kind of love. The love described by Paul in I Corinthians 13 is to be expressed in sixteen attributes, none of which are a feeling.
Yes, the world desperately needs love, the kind Jesus lived and the kind He wants in us. It is a love birthed in faith, expressed in courage and sustained in the strength of the Holy Spirit. It is the love that changes people and changes the world. It is the kind of love Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke about when he said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
It is my prayer that we display this love in every circumstance and toward every person. May God use you today as an expression of His love.
