Which Character Will You Be?

Which Character Will You Be?
March 22, 2019 Pastor Bob Barnett

“While He was still speaking, behold, a multitude came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was preceding them; and he approached Jesus to kiss him.  ‘Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?'”  Luke 22:47-48

We should ask ourselves what part we would have played in the Easter story.  Would we have been Peter, able to boast and betray loyalty from the same mouth in a relatively short period of time? (Luke 22:33-34) Could we have been John who stayed the closest of all the disciples hearing the last words He would speak before He gave up His spirit? (John 19:26-27)  Or God forbid, would we have been a Judas, who for self-interest and 30 pieces of silver, be willing to betray Him while displaying to the public a symbol of affection?

As His followers He wants us all to be willing to grow into the part God wants us to play…a follower and devout disciple of Jesus.  We can learn to speak words such as “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they are doing.”  We can learn to express genuine faith in Him.  We can learn to love God’s justice.  All the characters that were present in the Easter story surround us today, don’t they?  Which character will you be?
