Among all the names that reveal God, this, the “God of all comfort” (2 Cor. 1:3), seems to me to be one of the most wonderful.
The words “all comfort” speak of no limitations, and no deductions. Paul writes that whatever things are written in the Scriptures are for our learning and that through patience and the comfort of the Scriptures we may have hope.
If we want to be comforted, we must make up our minds to believe every single solitary word of comfort God has ever spoken; and we must utterly refuse to listen to any words of discomfort spoken by our own hearts, or by our circumstances!
We must choose to be comforted and believe that God knows exactly what He is doing. It is not always easy to believe God’s words of comfort but the Bible is a history of God’s faithfulness to His children.
