Now when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people assembled around Aaron and said to him, “Come, make us a god who will go before us; for this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt—we do not know what happened to him.” Exodus 32:1
Most of our gods that we craft are the substitutes we develop when God doesn’t do what we want, or when we want it.
The Israelites were in a hurry to a destination of their own estimation and could not wait. This may be an explanation as to why the first attribute of love described by Paul in 1 Corinthians 13 is “love is patient.”
In fact, all sixteen attributes in the list are actions and not feelings and require personal sacrifice which is the denial of ourselves for the sake of others.
It was love that took Jesus to the cross and it is love which has us bear our own.
Both Moses and Jesus were abandoned when it appeared they were not doing what the people wanted, and when they wanted it. Let us not miss the victories God has in store for us.
Our joys will come in the morning if we will be patient and wait through the night.
