Don’t give up! Don’t give out! And, by all means, don’t give in! David had reached a point of weariness where he wanted to give up. It is as if a “slump gun” was aimed at him, custom designed. Max Lucado wrote in his book, Facing Your Giants, “It fires not bullets, but sadness. It takes not lives, but smiles. It inflicts not flesh wounds, but faith wounds. Problems are the Sioux and you are Custer.”
David fled to dwell among the Philistines and learned a very hard lesson. He got back on track in difficult times by remembering only God can make the big things in life work out.
I sense such a strong need to admonish each person today to stay tight with the Lord. He will get each of us out of our slumps with many victories ahead to be realized and in which we will rejoice!
