Our natural tendency, even among Christians, is to believe that success of one kind or another would relieve us of all our difficult times.
We’re convinced if we could be just a little bit more successful than we are, our problems would be solved.
Oh, we may not say it, but in our day to day drive to “be somebody”—to be famous, to acquire the comfort of wealth, and to relish in the sweet taste of power– we can allow our values to become twisted from what real success is. Dr. Charles Malik defined it best:
“Success is neither fame, wealth nor power; rather it is seeking, knowing, loving and obeying God. If you seek, you will know; if you know, you will love; if you love, you will obey.”
