When the children of Israel were trapped at the water’s edge of the Red Sea, unable to move forward with the enemy behind them, they fell into utter despair. When they questioned the intent of Moses and God, listen to Moses’ answer: “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will work for you today…the Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be still” (Exodus 14:10-18, RSV).
These same words echo down across the centuries of time and bring us encouragement in our hard times. It is not God’s will that we, at any time, succumb to the paralysis of fear and discouragement. Rather, it is His will that we stand still, stand firm, and see God work in our lives and in the lives of those around us.
