What does it mean to be a servant #4
A Servant Perseveres
Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes … If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them awake, blessed are those servants! (Luke 12:35-37a; 38)
The service we’ve been called to is long and tiring, receives little thanks or recognition, and may seem to count for little while it’s being done. Continuing is such work is a challenge none of us is up to on our own. It can be easy to become burned out.
But we are not on our own. The Lord gives us others to work alongside us, a glorious future to work toward, and a promise that our work is not in vain. Most importantly, He gives us Himself, working in us and through us, so that we may be truly ready for whenever He comes. And He is coming sooner than we suppose.
