Our anxiety levels are higher than anywhere else in the world, and we are more anxious than any other time in history.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">According the New York Times magazine over the last decade, anxiety has overtaken depression as the most common reason college students seek counseling services. In its\u2019 annual survey of students, the American College Health Association reported that 62 percent of undergraduates reported “overwhelming anxiety.”<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Between 75 \u2013 90% of hospital visits are stress related. We spend around 1 trillion dollars on treating stress and anxiety\u2026that\u2019s more money than the cost of cancer, smoking, diabetes, and heart disease combined\u2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Anxiety may feel a bit like an epidemic in our day, but it\u2019s nothing new.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>As we have been studying through Psalms we often hear David, a man after God\u2019s own heart, express his anxious feelings. He\u2019s often feeling a little stressed. But as we have seen, the real question is not \u201cHow am I feeling?\u201d But \u201cWhat am I doing with those feelings?\u201d and \u201cWhat direction is this feeling taking me?\u201d ….<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">We have said that every emotion is like a vehicle that is taking us somewhere.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We have talked about the \u201cminivan of shame\u201d that wants to take us towards isolation, secrecy, and silence \u2013 but shame CAN take us to Jesus – where we find grace, forgiveness and freedom.<\/p>\n<p>[\/spb_text_block]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[spb_text_block animation=”none” animation_delay=”0″ simplified_controls=”yes” custom_css_percentage=”no” padding_vertical=”0″ padding_horizontal=”0″ margin_vertical=”0″ custom_css=”margin-top: 0px;margin-bottom: 0px;” border_size=”0″ border_styling_global=”default” width=”1\/1″ el_position=”first last”] When I ask the question, \u201cHow you feeling?\u201d You might say \u201cA little stressed,” but research would say that many of us feel a lot stressed.
